Democrats React To Draconian Alabama Abortion Law

It's not complicated. Both Sides Don't treat women as having autonomy over our own bodies.
Views:

The reaction from Democrats and Democratic candidates for president is proof positive that there is no equivalency between the political parties.

Republicans did this. Republicans treat women as non-people.

Both sides don't treat women as actual adult people with civil rights and autonomy over their own bodies.

Women’s rights are under attack. This relentless and cruel Republican assault on women’s health is designed to force a court battle to destroy Roe v. Wade. Democrats will be ready to defend health care and women’s reproductive freedom.

The abortion bans in Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Kentucky, and Mississippi are appalling attacks on women's lives and fundamental freedoms.

Women's rights are human rights.

We will not go back.

— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton)

There's a lot to say, but here's the bottom line:

Reproductive rights are human rights.

Abortion is healthcare—it must be safe and legal for all women.

We're not going back: we're going to fight like hell to stop this and every assault on women's healthcare.

— Rep. Jennifer Wexton (@RepWexton)

Several presidential candidates have gone on the record this morning. Kirsten Gillibrand is in the video above. (These are the tweets as of post time.)

will cost Alabama women their lives, and threatens the reproductive rights of women across the country. We must fight back, and our next president must act to enshrine Roe v. Wade into law.

— John Hickenlooper (@Hickenlooper)

The Alabama legislature is ignoring science, criminalizing abortion, and punishing women.

Instead, the government's role should be to make sure all women have access to comprehensive affordable care, and that includes safe and legal abortion.

— Pete Buttigieg (@PeteButtigieg)

The attack on women’s rights is happening in Alabama, Georgia and across the country, and we must fight it everywhere. I am proud that my state is fighting back—and I encourage all states to do the same to protect a woman’s right to choose.

— Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders)

The Alabama Senate just stripped women of health care rights by voting to make abortion procedures a felony. I will fight in solidarity with women to make sure rights guaranteed by Roe v. Wade will not be threatened by those who have no business making laws about their bodies.

Outrageous news coming out of Alabama. This law would effectively ban abortions in the state and criminalize doctors for doing their jobs - providing health care to women.

— Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris)

A federal judge has ruled Kentucky’s law blocking reproductive rights unconstitutional. It was wrong there, and it’s wrong in Georgia and Alabama, too.

— Jay Inslee (@JayInslee)

A lawless president has inspired lawless legislatures. Our laws are crystal clear the government cannot come between a woman & her doctor early in a pregnancy. Yet AL & GA did this anyway, believing laws don’t matter and if pressed, Trump’s justices will protect them.
